Evenings at the River

Friday night 6:30 dinner; 7:30 worship in our Worship Center, featuring Healing Stream. HEALING STREAM is the house worship band for Evenings at the River, a multisensory, multimedia, postmodern worship experience held every Friday evening in the newly remodeled worship center at Burlingame United Methodist Church. The service seeks to employ current technology and contemporary music forms to communicate the gospel to a secular public, bringing spiritual seekers into the life-transforming presence of God. Healing Stream connects its ministry to the larger mission of Burlingame United Methodist Church: "Inviting all people to experience the mystery of Gods grace..."

The band is led by singer, guitarist and songwriter Kevin Morgenstern. In the late 70's, Kevin and his band, Comfort, joined with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and formed Robert Hunter & Comfort. Together they toured major cities on both the East and West Coast. Kevin joined Hunter in composing original material for the band, which also toured and opened for the Jerry Garcia Band. Check out Kevin's website (www.kevinmorgenstern.com) and find out about his recently released compact disc.

Healing Stream is a high energy, nine piece modern Christian praise band, playing a wide array of material in addition to their repertoire of Kevin's original Christian music. The band also includes founder and spiritual leader, Pastor Laurie McHugh on piano and vocals, Will Stevens on bass and drums, Matt Morgenstern on lead guitar, John Hockridge on drums, Don Kane on bass, Barry Woodruff on congas and vocals and vocalists Zoe Stanaway, Janet Godfrey and Hailey and Ursula Morgenstern. Expressing the full dimension of human spirituality through music and helping others connect to God through musical worship is the band's mission and passion.

The group has been playing together at BUMC for about 5 years, in conjunction with Evenings at the River, which began as a monthly worship offering, and launched as a weekly service in January 2005.

Healing Stream led worship and music at the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Bishops Confirmation Retreats at Monte Toyon, and has been receiving a number of other invitations to play outside the BUMC congregation. They hope to continue to expand their service both to the local church and to the strengthening of other congregations in their efforts to revitalize worship.

Adult Sunday School

9:30–10:30 am each Sunday in the Milnes Room
KEYSTONE / PROGRESSORS CLASS
**Classes take place September–June only.

Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month, and is open to all who seek to live in peace with God and their neighbors.

Healing Prayer with anointing and laying on of hands is also offered at Communion services.

On the first Friday and first Sunday of every month along with communion you may receive anointing and laying on of hands (at Friday night, 9am and 11am Sunday worship celebrations) from our Healing Prayer ministry Team. We pray for healing of body, mind, spirit and relationships.

"When I was young and had small children Clark and I joined the Burlingame United Methodist Church. We were greeted at the front door the first day we attended and T. Elmer Smith came visiting the very next day. Through the years the church has been there for me in sickness and in health. I have learned so much from them. In my youth I had many questions about the Christian religion. Sterling Redman was teaching an adult Sunday school class called Keystone. His intelect and caring taught me so much. Keystone Socials made it possible to get to know my fellow members and they soon became some of my most priceless friends. To this day every class teaches me something new about the world we live in. I have been able to help others as they have helped me through the years. I look forward to more time to contribute to this beautiful church with the stained glass window of Jesus with outspread hands welcoming all."
